Can you tell me about the foreclosure process? How do I read this stuff?
The foreclosures go through several steps in a process which is documented as the information moves through our publication:

Step 1) Newly Filed Foreclosure- a foreclosure case is filed at the courthouse and assigned a special proceedings number. It is published in our newspaper as a Newly Filed Foreclosure.

Step 2) The Attorney will publish, as required by law, a Notice of Foreclosure. In that notice, the property and mortgagor is described as well as terms for sale and date and time of sale. That is published in our newspaper as a Notice of Foreclosure.

Step 3) The property is sent to auction. Those auctions are published in our Upcoming Foreclosure section.

Step 4) The property is sold, not sold, or the sale is postponed. That information is published as a Report of Sale. Under Report of Sale, you will see three sections. Sale > the property has been sold and the information is published under sale. Not Sold> the property was not sold for some reason, could be bankruptcy was filed, or the property was Dismissed Without Prejudice (DWOP). Postponed> the sale of the property has been postponed and the new auction time and date is listed.

Can you tell me how to invest in foreclosure properties?
No, it is not the policy of the Mecklenburg Times to advise anyone on real estate investing. There are investment groups who can guide you- look for their ads in our paper!

Our editorial section, however, publishes many informative articles on investing and real estate. Don't overlook those important editorial pages in the paper!
